The colourful parade brought Malaga´s celebrations on to the streets, as events continue this weekend. Gods and goddesses, Kings and queens, pirates and superheroes... at carnival time you can be anything but yourself.

Diario Sur: Malaga. Colour hits the streets this week for the annual carnival celebrations across the region before the more sombre season of Lent marks the countdown to Holy Week.

Events in the city of Málaga included last Sunday´s street parade, complete with giant insects to the delight of children. The fun continues throughout this weekend , with street performances on Friday, and the parade of god and goddesses, the flower battle and the popular drag queen contest on Saturday.

Events end with the tearful burial of the "boquerón" in Málaga this coming Sunday, while other towns and villages shed tears over sardines to conclude their celebrations. Carnival provides the annual opportunity for local and visitors to lose their inhibitions with the help of fancy dress and the carnival spirit.
